Summer Wrap Top: Free Crochet Pattern

One of my favorite summer top styles is a wrap top! Maybe because it’s like a light breezy top that gives you a hug, or how it goes with almost any summer occasion. If you’ve been looking for a fun summer crochet top pattern, then this latest free crochet pattern is just for you! Using a raglan construction, this is an easy beginner crochet top pattern that can be made by any skill level. It’s all made in one piece, so there is no seaming! It’s also super comfortable to wear.

My Inspiration

For awhile I had been wanting to create a crochet wrap top pattern that could be worn by anyone no matter what body type they have. I loved the look of wrap tops whenever I would see them in the store, but they always had too plunging of a neckline or looked too sloppy. Now that I’ve started making garments, I’ve been able to finally create the style of clothes I’ve wanted to wear so that they now can fit me! This top is super customizeable so that you can make it fit you no matter what your bust size is, or if you want the neckline to be less plunging you can start the increases on the sides sooner. It’s totally up to you!

The Yarn

When I was given the opportunity to work with Mary Maxim’s newest yarn Simply Natural, I knew that it was the perfect yarn to create a summer wrap top with. A weight 3 cotton and bamboo blend, this new yarn of theirs is amazing. It not only is amazingly soft, but it also has the ideal drape that you want for crocheting summer garments. It’s breathability makes it ideal for this top design, and I absolutely loved using it for this design! If you don’t have access to this yarn, there are some other great cotton yarns that you can use for this. A lot of my testers for this top pattern enjoyed using Lion Brand Comfy Cotton or Lion Brand Coboo. They both are great cotton blend yarns that I love using for lightweight garments.

Easy Beginner Friendly Construction

One of my goals with this design was to create a pattern that any crochet skill level could make. Sometimes you just want an easy project to make or you need a beginner friendly crochet pattern when you are making your first crochet top. This design fits all of those criteria. It is made using a simple raglan construction where you crochet it in one piece. That means no seaming for the main piece, so you don’t have to worry about lining up seams. The only thing you have to sew on are the ties, and that can be done in just two stitches.
