Inspiration
One of my favorite parts about where I live is that I live less than an hour from the mountains. I love the fresh air, breath taking views, hikes, camping, and pine trees. As I started thinking of winter designs for this year, I kept coming back to a pine tree motif. After designing my Pinewood Beanie and Pinewood Pillow patterns, I wanted to keep the collection going! With this design I took the simple shape of a pine tree to create a modern and stylish crochet winter cowl. It can be worn for the holidays or all winter long! It’s just the winter accessory that your wardrobe needs.

Construction
This pattern is a super simple crochet cowl pattern made in the round that is a great beginner tapestry crochet pattern. It’s made by doing tapestry crochet in the round, and has joined rounds to provide even stitching. All of the stitches are done in the back loops only to help prevent the slanting that can happen when tapestry crochet is done in the round. If you’ve never done tapestry crochet before, this is a great beginner pattern to learn how to do the technique in the round. If you are a visual person like me, I recommend grabbing the ad free pdf, which has a color chart that shows you all of the stitches in the pattern. I love using these color charts to help me know when I need to change color! You can get a copy of the color chart in the PDF in my Etsy store.
The Yarn
To make this cowl, I used two of my favorite super bulky yarns: Lion Brand Hometown USA and Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick. If I had to pick only two super bulky yarns to use for the rest of my designing career, these would be the two yarns. They’re soft, come in great colors, and work so well for crochet designs. The Lion Brand Hometown USA is the more budget friendly of the two coming in at just $2.97 per skein at Walmart. Although the Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick has a little higher price point at $7.99 per skein, it has more in it and is an awesome price for a wool blend yarn. Most designers would say it’s their favorite super bulky yarn, so I highly recommend it!

- 10.0mm crochet hook

Rnd 1:(Cream) Ch 57, join with sl st to first ch
Rnd 2: (Cream) ch 2, starting in first ch hdc 56, join with sl st to 2nd ch of ch 2 at beginning of round

Fasten off brown yarn. The rest of the rounds are done with the cream and green yarns.
