It’s already Week 3 of the May Flowers Blanket Crochet Along! I keep seeing so many beautiful flowers pop up on my feed, and I love it! This week’s block of the week is the rose block, which was such a fun tapestry crochet pattern to make. Like last week’s block, the Dahlia block, this crochet rose can be made in any colors that you want it to be. It’s another beautiful block to add to this crochet flower blanket!
My Inspiration
Roses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I remember as I was growing up, my grandma had the most beautiful rose garden with over 40 roses bushes in all sorts of colors. When we would drive up to her house during the summer, her garden was bursting with color, blooms, and such beautiful smells. All of those memories inspired this week’s May Flowers Crochet Along block: the rose block!

The Yarn
For my version of the rose block, I used Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn in yellow, green, and a beautiful red/pink yarn along with Premier Everyday yarn in pink. I love how the texture of the red yarn I used really brings the rose to life, and compliments the tapestry crochet design so well. If you don’t have access to Hobby Lobby Yarn, I recommend using Red Heart Super Saver, Caron Simply Soft, or Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice. Any worsted weight yarn in your choice of color combination would work great for this block!

- Red – 75 yards
- 6 mm crochet hook
- Scissors
Stitches Used/Abbreviations:
- RS = Right Side
- WS = Wrong Side
- ch = Chain stitch
- hdc = Half Double Crochet (UK half treble crochet)
- () = stuff inside parentheses indicates a color change to that color
Pattern Notes:
- This pattern is made using US crochet terminology, but the UK equivalents are listed in the Key.
- If you come across a part where it’s just a color in between two commas, then that stands for just one half double crochet.
- The pattern involves color changes using tapestry crochet. Experience with color work is recommended, but if you’re a beginner to tapestry crochet than you can totally do it!
- For a complete color chart of each of the blocks, along with the written pattern and some bonus blocks, check out the 39 page premium pdf here.
- I recommend reading through the pattern completely before beginning just to make sure that you understand everything in the pattern.
- Color changes happen are indicated by the color appearing in parentheses. See chart for full picture of the color changes.
- The arrows at the beginning of the rows indicate what direction the row is worked on in the chart.
- If you’ve never done tapestry crochet before, I’ve created a beginner’s guide to tapestry crochet that shows you how to do it. You can view the written and photo tutorial here, or watch the video below.
