Fall Crochet Pumpkin Coaster: Free Intarsia Crochet Coaster Pattern

Fall Crochet Pumpkin Coaster: Free Intarsia Crochet Coaster Pattern

Fall means all things pumpkin! I love putting splashes of crochet pumpkin decor all throughout my home during the fall season, not to mention how much I love all of the pumpkin flavored drinks and treats. The cold season also means that I start drinking a lot more tea, and need some fun fall crochet coasters to make. Thus the Pumpkin Coaster free crochet pattern was born! It’s cute pumpkin motif is the perfect splash of fall, and is a great beginner crochet color work pattern made using intarsia crochet.

Inspiration

On top of wanting to create something fun and pumpkin themed, I also was inspired to make something beginner friendly for people who are just starting out with crochet color work. My other intro color work pattern, my Cactus Coaster using tapestry crochet, is a great beginner tapestry crochet pattern. So I figured that another coaster pattern would be just the thing for teaching intarsia crochet.

Construction

This pattern is a basic crochet coaster pattern worked flat using intarsia crochet. It uses beginner intarsia crochet techniques to create the simple but pretty pumpkin. All you need to know how to do is do single crochets, chain stitches, and decreases. If you’re new to intarsia crochet, you can follow along with my intarsia crochet tutorial: the Beginner’s Guide to Intarsia Crochet. This tutorial walks you through all of the basics of intarsia crochet such as switching colors in crochet, yarn floats, working with multiple colors, and other tips and tricks that I use.

Yarn

To make this crochet pattern, I used some yarn in my stash that fit the pastel fall color palette that I wanted. The yarn I picked is Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn and Soft and Sleek. You can use any worsted weight yarn for this pattern, and even use thicker weights if you want a larger coaster for say a hot pad. Cotton yarn would be perfect for this!

Supplies:

  • Worsted Weight Yarn in 4 colors (I used Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn and Soft & Sleek):
    • Cream
    • Orange
    • Green
    • Brown
  • Size J 6mm crochet hook
  • Scissors

Abbreviations:

  • Ch = Chain
  • Sc = Single Crochet
  • Dec = Decrease
  • Inc = Increase
  • RS = Right Side
  • WS = Wrong Side
  • ← = work from right to left
  • → = work from left to right
