If your ears are anything like mine, then they’re always getting cold. Whenever the weather gets colder outside, that means I need to start making all of the warm cozy crochet winter items to keep them warm. The Velvet Head Wrap is a stylish and cozy crochet ear warmer pattern that is super soft thanks to the velvet yarn. It makes a wonderful gift, can be made in under an hour, and is so easy to make!
Inspiration
Since my ears always get cold, I’m constantly looking for cute new ways to keep my ears warm. I love all of the twist headbands I’ve seen on Pinterest, and decided to make my own version with velvet yarn. It’s a nod to the fashionable head wraps that women wore in the 1950s, and adds such an elegant touch to your outfit. I wanted to mix this style with the velvet yarn, and now I never want to take this off! You’re going to feel the same way!

Construction
This pattern is one of the easiest headbands that you’ll ever make! The pattern starts out with a foundation double crochet, which helps give the whole thing a stretchy base so it doesn’t fit unevenly. The rest of the pattern continues being crochet flat in a rectangle, until it is seamed up and twisted to finish the head wrap. The pattern is folded in half to create the double thicknessIf you’ve never made an ear warmer or head wrap before, this pattern is a great beginner pattern to make!
The Yarn
To make this pattern I used one of my favorite types of yarn, velvet yarn! If you’ve never used velvet yarn before it’s one of the softest yarns you’ll ever use. It makes super soft garments, scarves, and this head wrap! The two most popular ones are Bernat Velvet Yarn and Lion Brand Vel Luxe. The Bernat Velvet yarn is a bulky weight 5 yarn, but it also comes in a worsted weight size with the Bernat Baby Velvet. You can also use Lion Brand Vel Luxe yarn, which is a worsted weight 4 yarn. Just add a few more stitches and it will work! Either brand is equally soft, and with both of them as options you can have a endless array of colors to make this pattern in!

Bulky Weight Size: 8 dc x 5 rows
Supplies:
- Bernat Velvet Yarn for bulky weight size: 100 yards
- Size 7mm crochet hook
- Scissors
- Stitch Marker
Abbreviations:
- FDC = foundation double crochet
- Ch = chain
- St = stitch
- Dc = double crochet
- [ ] = stitch count at end of round
- ( ) = color inside is color used for stitches
- sl st = slip stitch
Pattern Notes:
- This pattern is made using US crochet terminology.
- Ch 2 does not count as a stitch.
- I recommend reading through the pattern completely before beginning just to make sure that you understand everything in the pattern.
- If you’d like the size to be bigger, just add a few more stitches when you begin.
Velvet Headwrap Pattern:
Row 1: FDC 42
Row 2-10: Ch 2, turn, dc 42
Fold piece in half hot dog style, and seam the first and last row together by sl st along the whole row. Fasten off leaving a tail for sewing. Twist Headband once so that the front has a twist to it, then seam the short edges of the headband together to finish it off.
