Gauge: 14 dc x 7 rows = 4” x 4” square

Hook Size: 6mm

Dimensions

• Baby: 18” x 18”
• Lapghan: 30” x 30”
• Throw: 42” x 42”
• You can make the blanket in any size. Each square is 6″ x 6″, so just add squares to increase to your desired size.

Yarn

Lion Brand Pound of Love (Worsted Weight 4, 1020yd/932m, 16oz/454g, 100% acrylic) or other worsted weight yarn. I used Pound of Love in:

• Fern (Color A)
• Antique White (Color B)

Abbreviations

• Ch(s) = chain
• st(s) = stitch(es)
• sl st = slip st
• Dc = double crochet

Pattern Notes

• This pattern uses US crochet terminology.
• This pattern can be made in any size that you would like. Each square measures 6″, so you can add 6″ to each dimension listed about until you get the size you want. Or you can make your own custom size based off of your own measurements!
• To join the squares together, I used the slip stitch join method. However, you can use any join method you prefer!

Amount of squares needed for each size:

• Solid Square:
  • Baby: 4
  • Lapghan: 12
  • Throw: 24

• Checkered Square:
  • Baby: 5
  • Lapghan: 13
  • Throw: 25

Nine Patch Blanket Pattern

Solid Granny Square Pattern

First time making a solid granny square? Check out my tutorial here on my blog that includes a photo and video tutorial to walk you through each step.

Rnd 1: Begin by creating a magic circle. You could also ch 4, then sl st into the first ch to create a ring. Once you have the ring, ch 3 (this will count as the first dc), in the ring dc 2, ch 2, dc 3, ch 2, dc 3, ch 2, dc 3, ch 1 join with sl st to 3rd ch of ch 3 at the beginning of rnd.

Rnd 2: sl st across the tops of the sts to the first ch 2 space. ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc 1, ch 2, dc 2, *dc in each of the next 3 dc to next ch 2 space, in next ch 2 space, dc 3, ch 2, dc 3, repeat from * 2 more times

Rnd 3 (and all future rnds): sl st across the tops of the sts to the first ch 2 space. ch 3 (counts as a dc), dc 1, ch 2, dc 2, *dc in each of the dc to next ch 2 space, in next ch 2 space, dc 2, ch 2, dc 2, repeat from * 2 more times

For next two rnds of the square, repeat rnd 3 with the amount of dc between each ch 2 space increasing each rnd. After rnd 5, fasten off and weave in ends.

Nine Patch Square Pattern

Row 1: Starting with Color A, ch 23, starting in 3rd ch from hook, dc 7, switch to Color B on last yo of the 7th dc, dc 7, switch to Color A on last yo of the 7th dc, dc 7

Rows 2-4: Ch 2, turn, dc 7, switch to Color B on last yo of the 7th dc, dc 7, switch to Color A on last yo of the 7th dc, dc 7

On last yo of last st of row 4, switch to Color B

Rows 5-8: Ch 2, turn, dc 7, switch to Color A on last yo of the 7th dc, dc 7, switch to Color B on last yo of the 7th dc, dc 7

On last yo of last st of row 4, switch to Color A

Rows 9-12: Ch 2, turn, dc 7, switch to Color B on last yo of the 7th dc, dc 7, switch to Color A on last yo of the 7th dc, dc 7

Fasten off and weave in ends.
