When it comes to seaming crochet squares, sometimes you want to do a quick and easy way without needing to use a yarn needle. That’s where one of my favorite seaming methods, the slip stitch join seam comes in! It uses crochet slip stitches to join pieces together, which eliminates the need for using sewing.
One of my favorite ways to use this seaming method is for joining crochet blanket squares. I used this join method for my Hop Into Spring Blanket! When using a contrasting color, it creates a beautiful textured seam.
Supplies:
- Crochet blanket squares or other crochet pieces you need to join together.
- Yarn to use for the seam. I like to use a contrasting color that stands out from my squares.
- Crochet hook that corresponds to the weight of yarn you are using.
Create a slip knot. Insert your hook through one of the back loops of a corner stitch.
Pull it up through the back loop of one of the corners of the square. Then insert your hook through the back loop of the next stitch.
Insert your hook through corresponding back loop on square 2. Pull the yarn through to create a slip stitch. Repeat that process down the edges of the two squares.
Continuing step 2 down the edges of the two squares. To join the next two squares, line the second pair to the first pair. Then insert your hook in the corner stitch of one of the new squares. Then insert your hook in the corner of the opposite square.
Finish the sl st the same way you did the other your slip stitches. Repeat the process and do sl sts down the rest of the line.
When you have finished seaming the pieces in one direction, then you can work the opposite direction. Insert your hook through the back loop of one of the corners, then pull up a slip knot with your joining color.
Insert your hook in the next back loop of your current square, then insert in the back loop of the corresponding stitch on the opposite square. Pull yarn through all loops. Repeat the slip stitch process till you get to the intersection of the squares.
To continue joining, ch 1 over the horizontal seam.
Insert your hook into the back loop of the corner on the next square, then insert your hook in the corner of the other stitch. Pull yarn through all loops to make a slip stitch. Continue doing slip stitches to complete joining all remaining squares.
