If you would have told me a year ago that I would love to wear crochet shawls and crochet triangle scarves, I would not believe you. However, I totally have to take it back because they’ve become my go to cozy crochet accessory no matter what time of year it is! There’s something so wonderful about wearing a triangle crochet scarf in the cold months, and this unique and easy crochet shawl design will soon be your favorite too.
Inspiration:
When I saw the Pegasus color way of Lion Brand Mandala, it reminded me right away of a princess. It brought to mind the rich fabrics and beautiful patterns of royalty, and I knew that creating a tapestry crochet shawl design would be perfect for this yarn. So I set out to create different tapestry crochet stitch patterns that each highlighted the colors of this yarn. The end result reminds me exactly of something a princess would wear, and I think you’ll feel like royalty too when you wear it.

Design Create Repeat Blog Hop:
This crochet shawl design is a part of the Design Create Repeat One Skein Wonder Blog Hop! For the whole month of August, different crochet designers each created a pattern that used one skein of yarn. When I found out what the theme was, I wanted to try something ambitious and turn one skein of Mandala into a unique beginner friendly tapestry crochet shawl.
There are so many other amazing patterns that have been a part of the blog hop. You can find all of the patterns at the following links:
Construction:
Though this crochet shawl pattern might look intricate and complicated, it’s actually super simple! The tapestry crochet motifs are made with half double crochets, and only involve using two colors at a time that you switch between. It is made with a basic crochet triangle scarf pattern, that is made more intricate with the color work patterns. This makes a great advanced beginner tapestry crochet pattern, and it is a great sampler to practice your skills!
The Yarn:
Did you know that all you need to make this shawl design is one skein of Lion Brand Mandala? Yes, it’s true! You can have all of the beautiful colors that are in each unique skein, and arrange them in your own special way. To make this crochet shawl, you unwind the mandala skein and separate each of the colors by winding them into balls and cutting them when it gets to a new color. Then you can arrange them to be paired in any way you want! If you don’t want to use Lion Brand Mandala, you can also use assorted weight 3 yarn in your stash to create the different designs.

Tassels (optional):
Choose 3 different colors to make the tassels from.
- Choose one color, and cut 27 strands of yarn each 12″ long.
- Make a U shape, and place it behind one of the corners with the strands coming towards the front.
- Pull yarn strands through the corner from the front.
The finished tassel will look like this. Repeat this two more times with a different color for each one. Place the tassels on each of the side corners and the bottom one.
Once you’ve finished the tassels, your shawl is done!
