Inspiration

As a big fan of flowers, I love any photos of vintage pickup trucks with a bunch of flowers in the back. You know the ones that Pinterest loves showing you that make you dream of spring? When dreaming up this design, I wanted to capture the retro style of a vintage pickup truck with lots of flowers! It had to be the light blue pickup truck of my dreams with lots of flowers in the back. I am so happy with how it turned out, and I think you’re going to love making this crochet wall hanging for your home!

Construction

This crochet wall hanging pattern has a super simple construction made from just one panel. It uses intarsia crochet to create the colorwork, which helps give it a nice and clean look. If you can crochet a square or change colors in crochet, then you can make this pattern! You’ll start out by crocheting the letters and then moving up to the truck before finishing off with more words. Bobbins will be your best friends with this pattern, but don’t let that intimidate you!

If you’ve never done intarsia crochet before, I’ve got a great tutorial here on my blog and on my Youtube channel that can help teach you everything you need to know to do it! You can find that one my blog at the Beginner’s Guide to Intarsia Crochet.

New to Tapestry Crochet or Crochet Crochet Color Work?

When I was first learning how to do crochet color work, I often felt so lost having to learn how to do color changes and reading crochet graphs. It can seem so intimidating to learn a new crochet skill! If you’re new to tapestry crochet or color work, then I’ve got just the resource for you.

Here on my blog, I’ve got a two free crochet tutorial for how to do tapestry crochet and intarsia crochet, which are the two most common crochet color work techniques. They’ll walk you through what each technique is, how to read crochet graphs, how to change colors in crochet, and a bunch of other tips I have for color work! You can find them here on my blog at:

The Beginner’s Guide to Tapestry Crochet: (This technique is used when you would like to carry your yarn, and the color work is close together.)

The Beginner’s Guide to Intarsia Crochet: (This technique is used when you don’t want to carry your yarn, and instead would like to use yarn bobbins. I used this for this pattern.)

The Yarn

To make this wall hanging, I used WeCrochet Dishie yarn. It’s a 100% cotton worsted weight yarn that has all of the durability of cotton yarn without all of the stiffness of some other brands. If I could use one yarn for all cotton home decor designs, it would be this one! It comes in a huge array of colors, and is super affordable too.

If you don’t want to use WeCrochet Dishie, you could also use any other worsted weight yarn or worsted weight cotton yarn to make this. You’ll need 8 colors total to make this pattern, and it’s a great way to use scrap yarn since a lot of the colors just need a few yards of each. Here’s the yardage for each color (also available before the pattern below):

  • MC = 80 yds
  • CC1 = 50 yds
  • CC2 = 40 yds
  • CC3 = 20 yds
  • CC4 = 15 yds
  • CC5 = 15 yds
  • CC6 = 15 yds
  • CC7 = 15 yds

Pattern Notes:

  • This pattern uses US crochet terminology.
  • Want a full color chart to help make this pattern even easier to make? Find one in the discounted premium pdf available in my Etsy and Ravelry stores!
  • This pattern uses the intarsia crochet technique. Experience with colorwork is recommended, but not required.
  • When doing the colorwork for this pattern, I recommend placing a yarn bobbin to minimize the colors from peaking through the stitches. Place a bobbin for each letter of the words, one for each tire, a blue one for the truck, and then one for each color of the flowers.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Once you are finished, attach the wall hanging to your stick or other holder. I like to take a tapestry needle and some extra yarn to attach it by doing a makeshift whip stitch around the stick. Then attach some more yarn or string to the stick to be able to hang the wall hanging onto something.

I hope that you love your new Fresh Cut Flowers Wall Hanging! If you make a Fresh Cut Flowers Wall Hanging of your own, be sure to tag me on social media, @eclairemakery and use #eclairemakery so that I can share your projects. I can’t wait to see what you make!

Happy stitching,
