Do you have a crazy yarn stash that seems like it’s always out of control? I know I do! It’s so much easier to buy a bunch of yarn instead of finding a way to organize it. Anyone else feel the same way? Well, I’ve got a solution for all of our disorganized yarn needs: introducing, my new DIY Yarn Stash Organizer! The key part of it is my Yarn Stash organizer cards where you can fill out all of the information that you have on the yarn labels onto the card, and tie a piece of yarn onto it so you always know what yarn the label was for.

I wanted to create an organizer that would help me keep track of all of the skeins of yarn that come through my stash, which if I’m honest is quite a lot. What do you do with the cards though to help them stay organized? I found that by using trading card binder sleeves, that you can have pages of nine cards at a time in order to maximize the amount of space you have.

This yarn stash printable is one of my favorite things that I’ve designed! What does it contain you might ask? It has a the yarn stash organizer cards, a yarn weights cheat sheet (cause it’s so hard to keep track of all of the different yarn weights out there), a cover page to show everyone that it’s your stash, and some yarn divider pages so that you can keep track of the different weights of yarn. My hope was to create a resource that’ll help you feel less of the mess and have more fun! So let’s get to helping you put your yarn stash organizer together.

Putting your binder together:

1. Print off the complete Yarn Stash Organizer Printable. To print multiple pages of the cards, just print multiple copies of page 4 of the organizer printable.

2. Put the My Yarn Stash Organizer Page in the cover sleeve of your binder. Then put the Yarn Weights Cheat Sheet in a sleeve and have it as the first page of the binder.

3. When you’re ready to begin filling out your cards, start by trimming off the excess edges of the yarn stash card page using a paper cutter or scissors. Then, once the edges are off, cut the cards out. I’ve found that a paper cutter is super handy in doing this!

4. Once the cards are cut out, punch out two holes close to the top of the card above the Yarn Brand Section.

5. Once you’ve punched out the holes, begin filling out the card with the info on the yarn label of the yarn you’ve selected. The cards have clearly labeled sections so that you’ll know exactly what information to put in each spot. On the band of the yarn symbol on the card, you put the number that represents what weight the yarn is.

6. After the card is filled out, cut a strand of the yarn the card is for, thread it through the two holes, and tie a knot in the back of the card to secure it before trimming the excess ends.

7. When you’re all done filling out the card, place it in one of the slots of the trading card sleeve protectors, and put it in your binder.

8. To separate all of the different weights of your yarn, put the yarn weight page dividers in your binder, which will help keep track of the different yarn weights in your stash.

Once you’ve filled out as many yarn stash cards as you’d like, then you’ll have you very own organized yarn stash! I love getting to see all of the cards together with the info filled out and the little piece of yarn at the top. I still plan on tucking the yarn labels in the same sleeve as the cards, but the cards definitely help my brain feel less scattered.
