When I was first learning how to do crochet color work, I often felt so lost having to learn how to do color changes and reading crochet graphs. It can seem so intimidating to learn a new crochet skill! If you’re new to tapestry crochet or color work, then I’ve got just the resource for you.

Here on my blog, I’ve got a two free crochet tutorial for how to do tapestry crochet and intarsia crochet, which are the two most common crochet color work techniques. They’ll walk you through what each technique is, how to read crochet graphs, how to change colors in crochet, and a bunch of other tips I have for color work! You can find them here on my blog at:

Lion Brand Color Theory (Weight 4, 246yd/225m, 3,5oz/100g, 100% acrylic) in 3 colors:

Ivory

Caper

Approximate Yarn Yardage:

Ivory: 4 (6, 8) skeins

Raisin: 1 skein for all sizes
Caper: 1 (2, 3) skeins

Abbreviations:

Ch(s) = chain
st(s) = stitch(es)
sl st = slip st
Dc = double crochet
Bobble = bobble stitch (*yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull through two loops,* repeat till you have 5 loops on your hook, then yarn over and pull yarn through all 5)
( ) = contains either the color to switch to, or the number of times something needs to be repeated for the lapghan size.

Pattern Notes:

This pattern uses US crochet terminology.
The ch 2 at the beginning of the row does not count as a stitch.
To do the tree colorwork sections, I used the intarsia crochet technique. This technique is done by creating 5 small balls of yarn that you join at each pumpkin. If you’ve never done this technique before, I walk you through how to do it in my Strawberries and Cream Blanket, which uses the same techniques as this one. Row 1: Starting with Color A, Ch 102, starting in the 3rd ch from the hook, dc across

Rows 2-3: Ch 2, turn, dc across

Row 4: Ch 2, turn, *bobble 1, dc 1, repeat from * to last dc in row, bobble 1

Rows 5: Ch 2, turn, dc across

The next portion begins the colorwork section. You can use the chart for the following rows, or use the written pattern below.
