Winter Diamonds Crochet Blanket Scarf: Free Crochet Pattern

One of my favorite go to accessories on cold and blustery days has to be a scarf or wrap. As someone who gets cold all the time, I always have to have something to keep my neck warm. No cold neck for me! What makes a scarf even better, if its a chunky, cozy, blanket scarf! I am so excited to bring to you my latest free crochet scarf pattern, the Winter Diamonds Wrap. It’s the coziest scarf that I’ve ever made, and I’m sure you’ll love it to!

Inspiration

When I first released this pattern, I had the great pleasure of designing it for The Hook Nook blog. They reached out to me last fall to see if I wanted to work on a secret project. Of course I was interested, and when they told me they were releasing a new yarn line with Joann’s plus they wanted me to design a pattern with it I couldn’t believe it! I couldn’t believe they chose me! I was so excited that I was one of the first people to use this incredible yarn collection.

Because Jessica, the designer behind The Hook Nook, is one of my favorite crochet designers on Instagram, I wanted this design to be inspired by her. She loves modern designs with lots of texture, especially when they have bobbles on them! You know I love a fun bobble design. When I received the super soft chunky yarn to start designing with, my first thought was a cozy blanket scarf that you could wrap yourself up in to keep the cold away! Thus this pattern was born!

Construction

Sometimes you just need a nice simple pattern that you can finish in a weekend. If you want a stylish crochet accessory that you can finish quickly, then this is the pattern for you! It has a super simple construction. The pattern is worked flat using simple intarsia crochet color changes. For the most part you’ll use your base color of yarn, but will use smaller balls of yarn known as bobbins to switch to your contrast color for the bobble stitches. If you want to add a fun decoration to your scarf, you can add tassels too!

If you’ve never done intarsia crochet before, I’ve got a beginner tutorial that walks you through how to do the technique. It’s called the Beginner’s Guide to Intarsia Crochet! It shows how to change colors, have less ends to weave in, and other tips you might need. You can check out the video tutorial and tips here on my blog: The Beginner’s Guide to Intarsia Crochet.

The Yarn

To design this pattern, I had had the pleasure of using the brand new yarn The Hook Nook Yummy yarn from Joann Stores! It’s one of the softest bulky yarns that I’ve ever worked with! One of the best parts about this new Hook Nook yarn collection is that it comes in the most beautiful pastel colors. Not only is it incredibly soft, but the colors come in the best modern color palette. I used The Hook Nook Yummy Tweed Yarn in Dusty Rose and Precious Metals.

If you aren’t able to get that yarn from Joann’s, then I recommend using another bulky weight yarn like Lion Brand Color Made Easy! It’s one of my favorite bulky weight yarns out there, and makes the most cozy projects. You can get it in such a wide array of colors to! It’s available on Lion Brand’s website, Amazon, or Joann’s.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Tassels (Optional):

If you’d like to add some tassels to your wrap, here’s how you can make them. Cut 12” strands of yarn in one of the colors. You’ll need 4 strands per tassel, and I did about 16 tassels per end of the wrap. Once you’ve cut enough strands, attach each tassel to the ends of the wrap by taking 4 yarn strands, pulling the middle of the strands through the wrap to create a “u” shape, and then pull the ends of the strands through the “u”. Repeat this for the rest of your tassels.

Now you’re all done!

I hope you love your brand new Winter Diamonds Wrap! If you make a Winter Diamonds Wrap of your own, be sure to tag me on social media on Instagram and Facebook @eclairemakery or use #eclairemakery. I can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Happy stitching,
