It’s a beginner friendly chunky crochet cowl pattern that features Lion Brand Go For Faux yarn, which adds a super soft accent to the cowl design. This cowl scarf pattern is a simple and easy design that can easily be crocheted in under an hour. It’s a wonderful gift to give to your loved ones or to treat your winter wardrobe!
I’m a huge fan of classic old movies featuring stars like Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant. Probably my favorite parts of those movies are the stylish clothes worn by women in the 1950s and 1960s. If I could afford to have my whole wardrobe be filled with vintage dresses from the 50s, I totally would! Some of my favorite accessories that women wear in the old movies are the faux fur collars and wraps. When Lion Brand released their Go For Faux yarn, I wanted to create an accessory with accents of faux fur to be reminiscent of those vintage accessories. Thus this cowl was born, and has just the right amount of faux fur accenting the cowl so that you can wear it with almost any winter outfit!
This crochet cowl pattern has one of the easiest constructions. It’s started with a foundation double crochet, which gives it a nice stretchiness throughout the whole pattern. Once you finish that foundation row, you then join the first and last stitch together to begin crocheting in joined rounds. You alternate every couple rows between the base color and the faux fur yarn. The colors are switched at the ends of rounds, so you don’t have to worry about any complicated color changes. You’ll easily be able to crochet this cowl in under an hour!
To make this crochet faux fur cowl, I wanted to use the faux fur yarn as an accent to the main color of yarn to make both stand out. I used Lion Brand Go For Faux as the faux fur yarn, and then Lion Brand Hometown USA as the base. I love the way these two yarns compliment each other, and since the faux fur yarn is a little more expensive, the Hometown USA yarn is the perfect cost effective alternative. Both yarns are weight 6 super bulky yarns, so they help the pattern work up super quickly. You could also use Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick as the base color. Either way, pairing the other Lion Brand super bulky yarns with the Lion Brand Faux Fur yarn will look amazing!
