Want to add some fun packaging to your holiday gifts this season? I’ve got the perfect free festive crochet pattern for you: the Candy Cane Crochet Gift Basket. This candy cane inspired tapestry crochet gift basket is perfect for putting all of those fun handmade gifts you’ll be making this holiday season for your loved ones. I love putting together gift bags and special presents for friends and family, and I know that this quick and easy candy cane gift basket will add a fun touch to all of your gifts! Plus they can reuse this over and over after the holidays!
One of my biggest inspirations for this pattern was how much I love packaging gifts. For some reason I love looking on Pinterest for fun gift wrapping ideas, and each package becomes a work of art! You should see my family’s Christmas gifts, because my mom and sister have the same obsession. We love wrapping gifts! Sometimes though, you don’t have time to wrap gifts. In comes the good old gift bag. What if you don’t want to use a gift bag though? This crochet basket will be a perfect substitute!
Since the holidays are such a busy time, I wanted to make sure this crochet basket pattern was quick and easy. It’s made in one piece in the round, uses tapestry crochet, and is a fun beginner pattern to make. The only stitches you’ll use are single crochet, half double crochet, and bobbles. I’ve even created a full crochet tutorial that shows you how to do everything from a magic circle, crocheting in the round, and doing tapestry crochet in the round. You can find my video tutorial for this pattern on my Youtube channel here: Candy Cane Gift Basket Tutorial.
To make this candy cane basket, I used Mary Maxim Starlette Sparkle Yarn. Not only is this yarn super soft, but it also has a beautiful sparkle to it thanks to the metallic thread woven into the yarn. It adds a fun festive flair to the candy cane striping that is perfect for gift wrapping. If you don’t have access to this yarn, you can always use any worsted weight yarn to make it. I highly recommend the Mary Maxim Starlette Yarn though if you want to have the sparkle in it!
Not only is this pattern available for free on my blog, but it’s also part of the fun Countdown to Christmas event on the Mary Maxim blog!
