Once the air turns crisp and the sweaters come out, that means it’s time for pumpkin everything! I love the time of year when everything is flavored pumpkin from drinks to baked goods to candles. Give me all of the pumpkin! That also means that it’s time to start making all of the crochet pumpkins too. This year I wanted to try something different and make some crochet velvet pumpkins with bobble accents. Who knew pumpkins could look even prettier?? Soon you’ll fall in love with this free crochet velvet pumpkin pattern and will be filling your house with all of the crochet pumpkin decor.
Three of my favorite things are: Bernat velvet yarn, pumpkins, and crochet bobbles. So of course the only logical thing to do is combine all three and make some crochet velvet pumpkins! This year these are all the rage, and you’ll find velvet pumpkins at almost any store filled with fall home decor. However, why buy them when you can make your own! After seeing so many, I thought I should create an affordable and stylish crochet pumpkin that was easy to make and just as beautiful. It’s quickly become one of my favorite fall crochet patterns that I’ve designed so far!
This fall crochet pumpkin pattern is one of the easiest crochet patterns you’ll ever make! The pattern is worked flat in rows of double crochets and bobble stitches with the bulky velvet yarn, which helps it work up super fast. Once the piece is all crocheted, you join the two ends together, and then use a basting stitch to bunch up the top and bottom. Then you stuff it, and wrap the yarn around the pumpkin to create ridges around it. It’s so fun! If you’re worried you won’t be able to make it, worry no longer. I’ve created a step by step video tutorial that walks you through how to make it. You can find that on my Youtube Channel at: How to Crochet Velvet Pumpkins in 3 sizes. Last year when velvet yarn came out, I immediately joined the velvet lovers club and couldn’t stop using the incredible soft bulky yarn that Bernat created. Then Lion Brand Yarn created a velvet yarn too, Vel Luxe, which is just as soft and fun to work with! If you’ve never tried velvet yarn, this is a great pattern to try it with. It’s some of the softest yarn that I’ve ever worked with, and it works for everything from garments to these velvet pumpkins. If you’re not a fan of the velvet yarn, you can use your favorite bulky weight yarn. If you prefer the Vel-Luxe yarn, which is a worsted weight, then just add a few more stitches to each size and work the rest up the same. Super easy to use whatever yarn you like!
