If you love flowers, the May Flowers Blanket is the perfect blanket for you! It’s like having a flower garden in your living room, made from beautiful crochet flowers. This crochet flower blanket pattern is a free crochet pattern that is made from 9 tapestry crochet flower blocks. It’s a beautifull and unique crochet graphgan pattern, that is a fun beginner crochet color work pattern.

Inspiration

Flowers are one of my favorite things, but since I have lots of seasonal allergies, I often can’t have any flowers in my home. However, it can be solved with crochet! I wanted to create a tapestry crochet blanket that would capture the beauty that flowers have, while creating crochet color work pieces that were pictures of flowers. It’s a flower garden that you get to cuddle with!

Construction

This crochet flower blanket is made from 9 crochet flower squares that are seamed together. Each one has it’s own crochet flower on it that is created with tapestry crochet stranded color work. You can also use the intarsia crochet technique for these designs as well! If you’ve never done tapestry crochet before, I’ve created a tapestry crochet beginners tutorial called The Beginner’s Guide to Tapestry Crochet. The blocks only use half double crochet, so you don’t need to know any complicated stitches in order to make this design.

The Yarn

For this crochet blanket, I used Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn and Yarn Bee Soft and Sleek. It’s an acrylic worsted weight yarn, that had the perfect color palette for a crochet flower garden. What’s great about this design, is that it makes a wonderful stashbuster pattern since you don’t use very much yarn for each flower. As long as you have a few skeins for your background colors, then you can easily use yarn in your stash. If you need yarn for this blanket, I recommend using yarns like Caron Simply Soft, Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice, Red Heart Super Saver, or Lion Brand 24/7 cotton for a summer cotton version.
