Do your ears ever get so cold and you just need to find a way to keep them warm? Sometimes mine get cold and give me a headache. That means during the cold weather I have to carry around something to keep them nice and warm. My go to is a nice chunky crochet ear warmer! I am so excited to share my latest guest blogger’s free crochet pattern: the Ain’t No Mountain Ear Warmer. It’s a chunky tapestry crochet ear warmer pattern, that’s perfect for the cold weather. It’s an easy and beginner friendly crochet headband pattern that you’re going to love making!
My names Claire and I’m the designer behind Bear Rye Creations. If you haven’t heard of me before you can take a look at my work over on Instagram and visit my blog for more free patterns. I am so honored to be chosen to be a guest blogger here on the E’Claire Makery blog. I have been knitting since I was about 10 years old (roughly 18 years ago) I picked up crocheting a little later in life, only doing this for about 10 years but instantly fell for it.
I personally love how fast it is to make things in crochet. How easy it is to construct shapes. I have spent a long time now creating patterns purely for myself without writing them down. In the past year my journey has changed from selling exclusively handmade items to sharing these patterns with other makers like you!
Since I started my journey as a knitter, I have always loved fair isle and colourwork. These pieces always seem a little intimidating though. If you have ever felt this way then tapestry crochet might be for you. It is such a versatile form of crochet with (almost) unlimited potential for making your own patterns.
If you have never heard of tapestry crochet or just need a little refresher, you can check out the E’Claire Makery Beginner’s Guide to Tapestry Crochet.
For my pattern I took inspiration from all the gorgeous fair isle hats that have been all over social media in the past few years and added my own little flair to it! Personally I love wearing big chunky ear warmers as they allow your head to breath a little and love how fast they work up!
When making this design I knew I wanted BIG. I decided to use Lion Brand Thick and Quick. Its super warm and cozy with some amazing color choices! I used Cranberry and Grey Marble in the pictured project. There are, of course, many color options but I loved the Christmassy feel to the color scheme (yes I know its August, but I can not wait for that cold weather).
The best thing about this project is the speed it can be produced. Since tapestry crochet consists of only single crochet this is the perfect pattern for beginners. Once you get the hang of carrying the yarn through your project everything will fall into place.
